Welcome Note

As the world started recovering from the COVID pandemic in 2022, it was timely for the Arab Division to resume its usual in-person educational activities in addition to its sponsorship of online activities. The 33rd Congress of the Division held in the enchanting city of Marrakech in Morocco on November 18-20, 2022 was a great success! It was attended by 250 registrants and several outstanding international speakers covered timely topics in pathology (breast pathology, uropathology, endocrine pathology, head and neck pathology, gynecologic pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, soft tissue pathology, hematopathology and neuropathology) and digital pathology. The Congress was preceded on November 17 by three workshops on Molecular Pathology, coordinated with the Association of Molecular Pathology, Uropathology and an update course to histotechnologists and cytotechnologists. The program had an extremely enjoyable social program that included a spectacular gala dinner where the attendees enjoyed traditional Moroccan cuisine and were entertained by live Arabian horses show, tribal music, and dancing.
Some of the proceedings of this congress and that of last 32nd Congress, held virtually, are now posted on the educational page of the Division and you welcome to visit them. At this meeting, new officers to the Executive Committee of the Division were elected:

Dr. Mehdi KARKOURI | President: Dr. Mehdi Karkouri (Morocco)
Dr. Moncef Mokni | President-elect: Dr. Moncef Mokni (Tunisia)
Dr. Dr. Mohammad Al-Qudah | Treasurer: Dr. Mohammad Al-Qudah (Jordan)
Dr. Hala Kassouf | Chair of the Arab School: Dr. Hala Kassouf (Lebanon)

Congratulations to the new officers and I am confident they will lead the Division into greater achievements during their terms.
The plans are currently underway to hold the 34th Congress of the Division and for the first time in Doha, Qatar on November 30- December 3. We are very excited about this prospect and to visit this Arabian Gulf country after the tremendous excitement deservingly earned after its very successful patronage of the World Cup. Additional activities are scheduled in 2023 by the Arab School of Pathology and we are looking forward to your participation in all these activities. Announcements to these events will be made in the near future.

I welcome any thoughts or suggestions for future activities.

President's Note

Dear Members,

Welcome to the Arab Division of the International Academy of Pathology (AD-IAP) website! I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the members wherever they are. Pathologists in the Arab Nations are striving to offer to their patients the best standard of care possible, in an ever-changing environment. The challenges we have faced and we are still facing, global pandemics, wars and conflicts, recession…are indirectly impacting our profession and this is why it is more crucial than ever to keep our activities running. Moreover, Pathology is getting more and more complex with the dramatic development of technology; precision medicine and artificial intelligence are changing the landscape of our profession.
In order to keep up with all these new developments, continuous medical education is key and it is one of the main objectives of the AD-IAP. The annual meeting of the Arab Division is the occasion to update our knowledge, reflect and discuss upon the development of our profession and share experiences. Moreover, the Arab School of Pathology offers a unique opportunitu to meet with international experts and exchange about contemporary topics. I want to express my sincere and deep thanks to all members of the Council for their time, their support and their collaboration and I am very much looking forward to meeting you all in person at our future events.

Mehdi Karkouri
